RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Henderson State’s Taylor Coleman (pictured left) and Ouachita Baptist’s Ryan Westover (pictured right) have been named the Great American Conference Baseball Players of the Week for their efforts during the third week of the 2012 season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Henderson State junior outfielder Taylor Coleman has been named the GACBaseball Player of the Week after leading the Reddies offensively during a three-game home sweep of Lincoln University this past weekend. The Texarkana, Ark. native went 7-for-12 (.583) at the plate against Lincoln with four runs scores, two runs batted in and two doubles for a weekly slugging percentage of .750. In addition to his batting numbers, Coleman was perfect 3-for-3 on stolen bases throughout the weekend. He started the series with a 2-for-4 outing in an 8-0 shutout win on Saturday with one run scored and an RBI double. A day later, Coleman went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI, while also swiping one base in a 6-0 win in the first game of a double-header. In the series finale on Sunday, he recorded his third straight multi-hit game in a 2-for-4 outing in HSU’s 11-1 win over Lincoln. He collected his second double of the series in that game, while also scoring twice and tallying two stolen bases.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ouachita Baptist senior Ryan Westover has been named the GAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week after recording a complete-game shutout victory over St. Joseph’s this past Friday at home. The Littleton, Colo. native went the full nine innings in the 4-0 win over SJC, allowing only three hits, walking none and striking out 13 of the 31 batters he faced. Westover tossed four perfect innings in the contest, and only allowed the Pumas to get past first base once.
